Comprehensive Pain Management
Historically, pain has remained a unique,
often misunderstood challenge that affects every age, gender,
and culture all over the world. It can have various causes and
confounding factors. Hence, there is no one "silver
bullet" that can cure pain.
Leaps in progress in managing pain have been made in recent years,
and is expected to advance further with the growth of the
field. These advances have led to a new subset of doctors
becoming specialists in treating pain of all types, including
chronic pain, cancer pain, neuropathic pain, severe pain, and
pediatric pain.
Pain specialists usually use a wide array of modalities in treating
various aspects of pain (biological, physiological,
psychological, etc.). This approach forms what is called
comprehensive pain management. Interventions include:
·
Pharmacologic Regimen
·
Psychological Support
·
Interventional Pain Management
·
Cancer Pain Management Program and Patient Home Care Service
·
Use of the Patient Controlled Analgesia (PCA) machine
·
Complementary Medicine (Medical Acupuncture)
